If you've been following RIFT closely over the past few weeks, you know that the fifth beta event has  begun. That means it's time for a new batch of updates, and the staff at Trion Worlds has come through. The notes for the latest event have been posted, and they contain an exhaustive number of changes, including a much-requested public grouping system as well as a quantity of UI improvements. There's also the usual collection of bugfixes and changes based on testing feedback.

Beta 5 patch notes posted for RIFT

Many players had requested some kind of open grouping system to coincide with the game's dynamic events, and the new public group system facilitates  that. Although the system still requires clicking a few buttons and flagging yourself as open for public groups, it streamlines the method of getting everyone organized and cooperative during a rift battle. RIFT testers and fans ought to take a glance at the full list of changes before diving in to the latest event.

UnDead Online coming for your braaaaaaaains

This brain-splattered game is being developed by indie studio JumpCore Productions. The studio was formed in 2007 by Cameron Petty, who was part of the founding team behind Cryptic Studios. According to JumpCore, UnDead Online will be an episodic MMOFPS hybrid that will have its first showing at the upcoming Games Developer Conference in March. A statement released by Petty explains further; "Each episode of the FPS game series will tell the story of a character that exemplifies one of the character classes in the MMO game. The player will experience that character's journey from his or her earlier existence in to the post-Apocalyptic world brought to life in the UnDead Online MMO, while exploring the matchless game play aspects of that character's class along the way."

When it comes to zombies and gun-toting fun with friends, most people would probably immediately think of Left 4 Dead or perhaps Red Dead Redemption's Undead Nightmare DLC. When it comes to MMOs, though, you've got limited choices for horror -- and many of them aren't even out yet! Today you have one more title to add to your listing of horror MMO games that are shambling toward you at some point in the future: UnDead Online.

Ultimately, we're glad to see another horror title planned for the MMO style, and they will certainly be expectantly waiting to chew on the developers' brains about what they can look forward to in their game. meanwhile, the UnDead Online site and forums are awaiting the presence of any interested zombie hunters.

The every day Grind: Why don't you like roleplaying?

If you're playing an MMO, you're roleplaying. No, you might not be peppering your speech with authentic Klingon or trying to simulate the dialogue of a nigh-immortal elf, but you're still pretending to be someone other than yourself on the screen. and yet roleplaying remains an intensely divisive force in MMOs; there are players who swear by it and players who go out of their way to interfere with it. Even in case you fall into the former camp, odds are  much absolute that you've spent lovely chunks of time cursing at one  obnoxious storyline or another.

Nexon brings Shakespeare's Hamlet to Mabinogi

Whether or not you participate in large-scale roleplaying, today they ask -- what don't you like about it? If you're a non-participant, does it appear to be  much work for  small reward? in case you RP regularly, do you hate the inter-player drama that so often results? If you're actively opposed, do you feel it takes development time away from more important game elements? Or do you have some other hate  unrelated to any of that?

To play Mabinogi or not to play Mabinogi, that's the query. Classic literature fans may have an simpler time answering it after viewing six new trailers for Nexon's free-to-play fantasy MMORPG. The tortured Shakespearian prince will be making an appearance in Chapter 4 of the game's story campaign, and if you're scratching your head as to why, Nexon explains all on its official net site.

"Both Mabinogi and Hamlet are rich tales filled with twists, intrigue, and memorable characters. These similarities, along with the legacy of being one of the most famous of Shakespeare's works, made the story of Hamlet a natural to fit within the world of Mabinogi," it reads.

The update will even be bringing new gameplay to Mabinogi in the type of theater missions and a brand new fate method that allows for further skill specialization. Additionally, new character skills, shadow mission updates, and item upgrades are coming with the patch. Hit the jump to check out the six new videos and head to the official site for further details.

Do they  must Wait till 2012 for the Release of Guild War 2?

Days ago, ArenaNet updated its latest weblog with a title "When It's Ready". Eric Flannum emphasizes the developers won't release info regarding Guild Wars 2's various systems until they feel it is ideal  to be shown to the fans. This topic has sparked off a lively discussion on the release date of Guild Wars 2. Do they  need to wait until 2012 for its release?

Ravious from KillTenRats has aired his own opinion about ArenaNet's latest weblog.

"Of work, it all comes back to information flow. they definitely have a schedule of points of discussion, but it's a liquid one. Flannum discusses how they had a roadmap of profession reveals months ago, but the five professions danced around the roadmap to the degree that the current roadmap looks  different. Between the lines, it's simple to tell that things must be  iterative with large things like PvP & underwater combat. It's not that they don't have a lovely idea; it's  that when they tell us, they need to freakin' tell us. With the degree of reception of the revealed professions, convention demo material, & everything else we've learned so far, I'd say this is a  lovely strategy."

It seems that ArenaNet has some reservations about revealing more detailed information. After all, this game has been under development for   4 years by now & they still don't know exactly how much of the game the development team has done. Also, with the advent of American holidays coming this week, the development of the game might even see a hiatus as the staff of ArenaNet takes a break with the holidays. lots of fans worry that with the current development speed, they won't get to see the final release until 2012. that is a long way more to go indeed & the whole wait would be simply excruciating for fans worldwide.

Obviously, all of us hope ArenaNet would speed up the development speed so that they could play this highly-anticipated game sooner. Or in any case, at least release the fifth class as soon as feasible? Such a long wait is agonizing indeed & I think lots of fans would die for any new information. As for the release date, do they  must wait until 2012? possibly only time could tell.

On the other hand, ArenaNet says they can't divulge anything that will be different from future releases or reveal some semi-finished systems. That indicates what you see in the current sneak peeks would probably be what you get when GW2 is finally released. At the  least, the current features they know about the game such as dynamic event, PvP system & underwater combat, sound  appealing & worth waiting for. & to some extent, it could prevent some players from feeling disappointed ought to the final product fails to live up to any excessively large hype.

Fans of Korean MMORPGs have a lot to look forward to over the next year, what with the imminent release of Bluehole Studios' TERA and Jake Song's ArcheAge Online currently undergoing closed beta testing. One title that won't be seeing the light of day any time shortly is NCsoft's Blade & Soul. CFO Jaeho Lee recently indicated that "Blade & Soul is expected to launch [its] first check in 2012."

Rumor: Blade & Soul testing postponed until 2012

The fantasy martial-arts MMORPG is being developed by Team Bloodlust and Hyung-tae Kim, and looks to be taking a page out of The elderly Republic's (and TERA's) book by focusing on story  than grinding.

This ain't like dusting crops, boy: The elderly Republic expounds on crafting and PvP

Earlier this week, BioWare promised a couple of Star Wars: The elderly Republic "juicy reveals" at this year's Winter Showcase in London, and it looks as though it might have delivered. The studio went into detail about six key systems in the game: crafting and PvP Warzones.

Darth Hater reports that Warzones will be just one of the kinds of PvP arenas in the TOR. Warzones feature set teams with specific objectives. In the case of Alderaan's Warzone, it involves taking over turrets and blasting the enemy's drop ship to pieces -- one time this happens, the match is over and tokens and XP is awarded. This Warzone was shown to be 8v8, although BioWare did not mention if the Warzones scaled in group size. BioWare also hinted about another Warzone that takes place on a derelict spaceship.

Turning to crafting, BioWare is implementing something called the Crew Skill scheme. Players will send their crew on assignments to accomplish various objectives, including gathering (Bio Analysis, Slicing), crafting (Artifice, Biochem) and missions (Diplomacy, Treasure Hunter). Companions are usually suited to do one of these tasks better than the others. These tasks can be queued up in advance, and will have different benefits -- for example, Diplomacy can spread a player's influence and impact morality points, while Treasure Hunting will turn up treasures (and, presumably, junk) based on a random number generator.

How much emphasis are your guild members giving this project, compared to the remainder of their WoW experience? Do you still raid endgame content?

When they finally beat him, our party consisted of two hunters, a paladin, a druid and my warrior tanking. The paladin, who's typically DPS-specced, changed to be a second healer with the druid. The whole party except myself as the tank stayed on the top of the stairwell leading in to Arugal's room. I pulled him in melee range and tanked him in place until he cast his curse on me. As shortly as he cast the curse, the remainder of the party jumped out of the room to LoS him and me simultaneously. This made it so no one was taking destroy from either of us, and by the time I had run all the way around the stairs to get at them, the curse was  completed and I changed back in to my tauren self. After reacquiring aggro on Arugal, I attempted my best to pull him back to where he started, but by the time he started going anywhere, he had cast the curse again. This time, the paladin cast Hammer of Justice on me to take me out of the equation. It was  time for the hunters to pummel Arugal to death, and they were overjoyed to finally have beaten him.

they try to get a run in every couple of weeks or so, and I'd say all of us treat this is an "important" aspect of our gambling as much as any other part. I'm not personally in to raiding a lot, but some of our members are. I don't reckon someone has  had to halt their "normal" WoW activities to participate in this project.

When you get to raid levels, will you be raiding the early raid content in this same, minimum-level spirit?

how is Cataclysm going to affect things?

kind of undecided at this point, I reckon. I'm positive they will try some classic raids when they get to the appropriate level, but they may show to be far  much for us. Molten Core was five times run by 40 level 60 raiders; if they try it at 55 (the maximum necessary level), they will probably have considerable difficulty overcoming even the simplest mobs in there. I reckon they might just continue on with 5-person dungeons in The Burning Crusade content instead, which will be  hard but doable without increasing our guild size considerably.

As far as instances go, they know Shadowfang Keep and The Deadmines are going to be converted in to high-level dungeons, so we'll likely be giving them a visit again. they have no idea in the event that they plan to alter the maximum levels of any more of the existing dungeons, but we'll see.

The largest thing that they know will alter is the availability of gear from quests. None of us can anticipate what quests will be removed or added, what rewards will be gone or become obtainable to us. It's fascinating to reckon about, . they are going to try and get through as lots of dungeons as feasible before the expansion hits, but they don't anticipate getting  far at this point. If things don't alter much, we'll probably just continue on as they have; in the event that they alter drastically, I suppose we'll burn that bridge when they come to it. Considering that the characters they use are dedicated to this project exclusively, I personally would have no issues with restarting at level 1 if it seems necessary or beneficial.

Are you recruiting? How can people get involved?

i have some macros set up for guild recruitment, but they don't get much interest. Most responses I get are, "Are you serious?", "Are you nuts?" or something similar. I've had a few people express interest outside of my circle of friends, but I reckon they fail to recognize how much work is involved.

I'd say it would be  difficult to participate without a high-level for support. If anybody is new to WoW in general, I wouldn't recommend this project. Having the experience of leveling lots of toons and having completed these classic dungeons hundreds of times is invaluable to the group.

If anybody typically plays on another server and just desired to roll with us, I'm positive it's something we'd be willing to consider. Most of us build our own gear lists and just use each other to receive them. So  if anybody knows how to gear a toon, then we'll be willing to let them in. in case you're willing to put in the research to get the best stuff, then I would be willing to help you get it.

The only actual stumbling block for this option would be Bind on Account items. In  every case, BoA stuff is the best in slot for any level, so in case you aren't able to receive those, you'll be at a disadvantage compared to the remainder of us. Its not unheard of, though. Our primary healer doesn't use any BoA and he does just great.

Best of luck in SM, guys! Sound like fun? Contact <What in Tardation> to find out if you've got what it takes to be a true lowbie.
